These eyes see the ImageBearers. These eyes see the Created Order in its beauty and protect it. These eyes see a God who is loving, and exerts justice as a last resort.

Wow, did you read my mind today? I was scolding myself for being too cynical. I get what you mean, and you’re right, but I’m sure the opposite is just as bad. Don’t those eyes that are always seeking what is precious and beautiful also often fail to see what is false, and lead to complacency - turning a blind eye and glossing over things that are wrong. Both ways are a “false substitute for proper Christian anger, lament and faithful action”, but at least cynicism is honest about it.
hey dan, totally un-related to your post, since I am feeling quite the opposite of cynical at the moment. I just wanted to say have fun at freefall tomorrow night (or tonight.. since it’s quarter to 4am). I’ll be thinking about you guys, and wishing I were drumming with you
