another amazing thing about larry wright: he’s been peforming in the nyc subways for about 20 years, since he was 13 or 14. when i first moved to ny he was a skinny kid who used to play almost every day in the times square subway station. he was so talented that within a year or so it seemed like every new yorker knew who he was. he’s in the opening scene of the 1990 movie Green Card, and has been in music videos too. but i don’t know if he’s ever been able to make a living off his drumming or if he’s ever had or wanted a record contract.

This is everything I love about percussion right here. All it takes is a decent (or amazing in this guy’s case) sense of rhythm and anything that has sound or tpne can become the canvas for amazing music.
