New Song: I Choose To Follow Again

I just noticed that I wrote this song almost exactly one year ago. We write, and it comes back to us.

“Just wrote this, from the gut and as a personal prayer, here in Kelowna, BC on a late night.

It was born as a personal prayer in what is a challenging season, for hearing a Voice beyond ourselves, and being awake to the next moment of choice.

In many ways, it feels like a song about the Church in an emerging world (I’d change it to “we” language), and our quest to follow in the midst of the tumult. Could we indeed dream again in the midst of such radical cultural challenges the Church is facing?

In the last lyric, the “vision” can be two-fold – the personal whispers of God to you about your life and vocation, or the vision of the New Creation to come to compels us to continue forward as followers of Christ.

Below the vid is the chart and lyrics, and feel free to use it can serve your journey with God as well.”

  1. I like it! How soon can you get it on CCLI?

  2. Great song. I hear a cello in there. I usually make fun of songs that use the words “dream” and “moment”, but you actually use them rightly. Your dreams are the dreams of God, not the narcissistic dreams of riches and fame. Your moments are those in which you hear the voice of God and obey, not the hedonistic moments of lust and drunkenness.

  3. I liked being awake to the moment. Those words said a lot to me and set me to thinking and reaching. Blessings….

    Hey Dan,

Thank you for sharing this song Dan. This marks the second time that I’ve come across it . . . the posted lyrics gave me an opportunity to really reflect on what is being sung, beyond the distractions of watching to see what you’re doing with your fingering and listening to the tune and picking out the various arrangements of supporting instruments! ha! Distractions so easily keep us from quieting ourselves enough to really listen. I’m finding myself doing much more listening these days.

I’ll be copying this and creating a lead sheet . . . I look forward to using this during my personal worship AND finding a time when the congregation is ready to make this their own. There isn’t much more precious than witnessing hearts opening up to ‘the voice of eternity’.

    Blessings
    David

    Hi Dan,
Thanks for posting song and lyrics. You sang “I know, You say it’s time to dream again.” I think in my heart God is telling me that it’s time to live again. He’s giving me permission to live again even though the clouds and the rain have lasted for so long. Somehow deep calls much deeper and God’s love reaches farther in suffering. Thanks for sharing this truth that His grace is perpetually enough.

What are the chords you are playing, Dan; I can’t seem to follow what your fingers are doing, could you somehow show us the chord patterns?
    Thanks
