Cool pic. Thinking about the analogies related to fire, light, praying in darkness, inspiration, and the like.
indeed. missing your candles here my friend.
Visited a church in Brooklyn, NY on Sunday. Said this in their bulletin: “We light CANDLES to signify that God’s Spirit is living, active and at work among us both in our gathering and as we depart. (Eph 1:18-20; Rom 8:11)”
Another friend’s church website says: “FIRE has long symbolized God’s presence among his people. We continue this practice by lighting Spirit candles at the Invocation and ushering them out during the Benediction to show that he goes with us into the world for mission.”
It’s more than pragmatic, it’s symbolic.
Yes, Ryan – thanks for this.
