Introducing: Andrew Smith

Good friend and stunning guitarist Andrew Smith will be in town this coming week to do a concert with us. I’ll attach his bio below underneath a homegrown video of him playing in his tap style. Andrew’s son attends SSU, and Andrew and I go back a long way to a recording we did together in Winnipeg.

I’ll also do a podcast interview with Andrew on artistry, creativity and faith that shouldn’t be missed. Enjoy the clip.

This fall Andrew will play a series of concerts in the Maritimes and Eastern Canada ending up at the OCFF conference in Ottawa in late October.  See the calendar for concert details.

Andrew Smith has just returned from the INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL in Dresden Germany (with rave reviews-see below).  The festival featured a dozen great guitar players from around the world including Peter Finger and Frank Haunschild.

He also recently travelled to Africa with a film crew –  commissioned to write and record an instrumental guitar piece for the documentary film ‘Goal #2’.

Andrew’s live show combines his award winning talent as a SINGER/SONGWRITER and INSTRUMENTALIST.  He has been playing folk clubs, festivals and house concerts in Canada, the USA and Europe to enthusiastic audiences.  Andrew has shared the stage with Bruce Cockburn, Ruthie Foster, Gordie Sampson, Martyn Joseph and David Wilcox.

Andrew wins KERRVILLE NEW FOLK SONGWRITING  COMPETITION on the strength of his songs ‘Holes in the Night Sky’ and ‘Rite of Passage’

‘Rite of Passage’ receives Honorable Mention at the Mid Atlantic Song Contest, and is short-listed for the International Songwriting Contest.

‘Do You Like It?’ receives Honourable Mention at the 2007 Singer-Songwriter Awards.

Andrew’s solo instrumental CD ‘escape velocity’ wins him the ‘OKANAGAN INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR’ award, receives two nominations from Just Plain Folks Music Awards, and ‘The Pilgrimage’ is short-listed for the International Songwriting Contest.

Sheltering Mercy: Prayers Inspired by the Psalms

Sheltering Mercy, along with its companion volume, Endless Grace, helps us rediscover the rich treasures of the Psalms—through free-verse prayer renderings of their poems and hymns—as a guide to personal devotion and meditation.

The church has always used the Psalms as part of its prayer life, and they have inspired countless other prayers. This book contains 75 prayers drawn from Psalms 1-75, providing lyrical sketches of what authors Ryan Smith and Dan Wilt have seen, heard, and felt while sojourning in the Psalms. Each prayer is a response to the Psalms written in harmony with Scripture. These prayers help us quiet our hearts before God and welcome us into a safe place amid the storms of life.

This artful, poetic, and classic devotional book features compelling custom illustrations and foil-stamped hardcover binding, offering a fresh way to reflect on and pray the Psalms.
