  1. Dan – looking forward to it. A tough one to live up to after Kathryn! Warmly, ASD

  2. JSF

Dan – The title can be misleading, or maybe it’s a broad brush, but to which person(s)’ ego are you referring to? The servant that’s leading, the leader who’s letting the ’servant’ lead, or the congregation’s egos?

Lastly, do you feel that ego’s are ruining the church worship scene at this time? Our town suffers from a lack of excitement and passion in our worship times, this is the case from church to church across this city. The leaders are all of the like mind that they have to be subservient to everyone around them, totally missing the point that they serve an awesome and amazing God.

Maybe that’s not the case anywhere else, apparently.

    Thanks though.

Hi Dan, I just discovered this site via Jason Clark’s website and missed the webinar. I don’t seem to be able to access the mp3 though. Any ideas? I’m interested in leadership and hope to be writing a book on the inner life of Christian leaders, so I thought this would offer an interesting perspective. Many thanks. Karen

  4. Dan, in listening to the recording of Tim Hughes’ call today, I came away with these thoughts. As worship leaders, especially musicians and artistic leaders, we are faced with the challenge of being a servant. This is not always easy because of our normal human ego. We must humble ourselves and turn from our normal human attitude that says we are in charge and that we are quite capable of managing it on our own. As Tim said, “When we try to steal the glory, God quickly humbles us”. How very true.

This requires us to embrace and cultivate humility, thus creating a servants heart. We must spend time in prayer as we work through our pride and ego, and then practice this in our daily life. We live to serve no matter what our roles are in the community.

As a musician I am often in the “spotlight” and I must remind myself I am serving God with my mind, soul, body and voice. As Tim said, “God is looking for servants, not stars”.

In the note above from JSF, he said his leaders are subservient. Subservient means inferior. Servants are certainly not this. Servants are a helpful and useful part of God’s Kingdom. Servants do not lack excitement and passion. They should have willing, happy hearts and loving attitudes as they serve God and God’s people.

    Thank you,
    Bonnie

  5. Great reflections on the webinar guys. Our hearts stand at the epicenter of so many things in this life we lead.

Cheers to following Jesus in an ego-centric world.
